FAQs
Which cloud provider does CedarDB Cloud run on?
CedarDB Cloud will initially run on AWS. Support for additional cloud providers will follow.
Which regions is CedarDB Cloud available in?
CedarDB Cloud will initially be available in Europe and the United States. Additional regions will be added as the service expands.
How can I load data into CedarDB Cloud?
You can load data using standard PostgreSQL-compatible tools such as pg_dump and psql, import data from formats such as Parquet and CSV, or use migration and replication tools such as AWS Database Migration Service. AWS DMS supports both one-time migrations and Change Data Capture (CDC), allowing changes from a running source database to be continuously replicated during a migration and helping minimize application downtime.
Can I still use my existing PostgreSQL tools and drivers?
Yes. Just like self-hosted CedarDB, CedarDB Cloud is designed to make the move from PostgreSQL straightforward. We provide the connection string at instance launch, and you’re ready to connect your favorite applications and tools. For a non-exhaustive list of clients tested for compatibility, have a look at the docs.
How can I backup and restore my data on CedarDB Cloud?
At launch, CedarDB Cloud offers manual backup and restore via the UI. Automated backups will follow soon.
How can I scale my application on CedarDB Cloud?
CedarDB Cloud scales vertically. When creating your CedarDB Cloud database, you choose the instance size that matches your workload. You can move to a larger instance as your compute or memory requirements grow. CedarDB is designed to make effective use of large machines, allowing you to scale from smaller deployments to high-performance instances.
How does CedarDB Cloud secure my data?
Data stored in CedarDB Cloud is encrypted at rest. Access to your database is controlled through database-level authentication and permissions, allowing you to define which users and applications can access your data.

We ported the original Doom to SQL
The original Doom's game logic and renderer, both implemented as SQL queries. Oh, and deathmatch works as well!

Encoding or Compression: Why not both?
The terms "encoding" and "compression" are often used interchangeably, but they solve different problems and come with very different trade-offs. We break down what sets lightweight, data-aware encodings apart from general-purpose compressors like zstd, and when to reach for which.

CedarDB Launches HTAP (10 Years Ago)
Unifying transactions and analytics is once again making news headlines as the holy grail for AI agents. But it is hardly news. Umbra, the research behind CedarDB, started 10 years ago, and even then it was not the first. With CedarDB, what other vendors still call impossible is running in production today.
